When Maia’s diaphragm expands, the world shrinks”- commented once a British music criticizer Amy Spurling after hearing Maia Baratashvili sing. Indeed, since her youth Maia Baratashvili has been captivating audiences with her powerful and emotive voice.
Trained as a classical piano player at Tbilisi’s performing arts school, Maia moved into Jazz in 1995 and soon joined Tbilisi Concert Orchestra (The Tbilisi Big Band) as leading vocalist where she has been engaged till today. Press:
“Maia Certainly has beat; she also has rhythm, great strength and style. The power of her voice is what carries her performance.
She’s obviously got one of those generous diaphragms
If you have ever seen her perform life, then you’ll know that she has all the right composites of the jazz singer – the particularly positive energy, that one presumes, often masked misery. . . “-Amy Spurling.
“Maia has a quality that rare among today’s female jazz vocalists: she can blast an audience out of the exalts with the raw power, however she combines this with an ingenuity that conjures fresh melodies out of any tune” – Holly Collier, guardian.co.UK London.
